President’s Welcome Letter
Melbourne, December 5, 2010
To: – Masters,
– Brothers and sisters all over the world
Greetings to all,
On behalf of the Executive Committee – Council of Masters of Overseas Network, I would like to greet each of you and your family with warmest regards of good health and peace.
On March 31, 2010 Grand Master has issued the decision for establishment of the Executive Committee of Overseas Network includes five appointed masters:
1 – Master Diệp Khôi (Australia)
2 – Master Trang Phước Đức (Europe)
3 – Master Lương Thuận Vui (United States of America)
4 – Master Vũ Đức Thọ (United States of America)
5 – Master Nguyễn Minh Hải (United States of America)
According to the Grand Master’s official decision, the chairman of the Council of Masters of Overseas Network will be selected within the Executive Committee in a rotating fashion, who will direct the operation of the Council of Masters, and be responsible for all activities associated with discipline outside of Vietnam. I, Master Diệp Khôi, currently live in Australia, was nominated by the masters of the Executive Committee to hold the first rotating presidency of the Council. This is an honor and an enormous responsibility, not only on myself, but also on the whole the Executive Committee which has the responsibility to promote all discipline’s activities overseas, so we need the cooperation and support of all of you worldwide in all aspects of our mission ahead. Solidarity, unity in mind and action will bring success. Our late Grand Master often reminded us: “The Catholic Church has billions of believers around the world today, but originally the proliferation and building started with only 12 Apostles.”
Due to historical circumstances, the operations of overseas organizations have been extremely complex; suspicion and division among members sharing the same martial art uniform has been extremely serious; and I believe only genuine love and true tolerance will bring us closer together. Let’s take another careful look of our brief past. After so many turbulent and arduous challenges, we have endured them all together while proudly wearing the same ocean blue uniforms, if we do not have empathy for one another, then who would deserve our sympathy and compassion? Through sympathy and genuine assistance to one another, we will be able to fill over any gaps separating between us brothers and sisters.
Right from the early days when Vovinam discipline came into existence as with so many other martial arts disciplines in Vietnam, and up until now, what have enabled our discipline and given us the courage to develop and expand around the world? Undoubtedly, we are fortunate having the great leaders such as the Founding Master, Grand Master, Master Mạnh Hoàng, Master Trần Huy Phong… and generations of talented and pioneering senior masters who devoted and sacrificed wholeheartedly for the cause that initially originating from the Founding Master’s patriotism and the martial art ideal for serving the nation and humanity. The spirit of “Live, let others live, and live for others” has helped us through many arduous challenges that sometimes seemed impossible to overcome.
Grand Master Lê Sáng who sacrificed his life for our discipline; although he passed away for good, however our Master’s dream and ideal will be carried on vigorously and relentlessly by Vovinam-Việt Võ Đạo disciples worldwide. During the last days of Grand Master’s grave illness, those who were fortunate having an opportunity to visit him, in personal conversations with him, he advised repeatedly: “Try to improve and enhance our discipline.” Many masters hesitant to leave Grand Master’s sick bed, but he has boldly insisted: “Go and take care of our discipline.”
Grand Master’s trust in the Council of Masters of Overseas Network is an honor and opportunity and is also a great challenge. We can no longer rely on our Grand Master, we – yes ourselves, all Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo overseas disciples need to work hard and take initiative for promoting our discipline ideals overseas in order to fulfill the responsibility which he entrusted in us. Vovinam has never been short of talented people as Grand Master gently recalled : “In the early days of Vovinam, having someone with bachelor degree among us was a rarity, today Vovinam students include multitude of people with excellent qualifications and credentials, with outstanding expertise in many areas around the world.” We strongly believe, with the ability and resources available, with passion for the righteous ideal, and relentless devotion of all the overseas Vovinam students, we will strongly pursue and implement our discipline’s goals and mission and will never falter on our Grand Master’s expectations.
We always welcome your advice and constructive opinions that can help our discipline thriving forward strongly. We sincerely look for opportunities to collaborate and work with all of you worldwide to build our discipline at overseas better and stronger in the future.
Thank you and best regards.
Master Diệp Khôi
